National Times- The Tay Ho Flea Market, which opens every Saturday morning, fits in an alley on To Ngoc Van street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi.
Sellers and buyers here are mostly foreigners. Open since 2010 in the area which is home to most foreigners in Hanoi, it is also called Tay Ho Flea Market, Western market or “Chợ Tây”.
The market is a unique combination of a Vietnamese fair with the goods in accordance with European taste. There are about 20 stalls of all kinds of food: vegetables, chicken, eggs, bread and wine, beer, tea, honey, old and new souvenirs.
This weekend fair are formed and organized by a Frenchman named Patrice Gautier, who is the manager of Asian Veterinary and Livestock Services (ASVELIS). Gautier’s wish is greating a place for clean product introduction and cultural exchange among foreign expats. They come not only to shop but also to enjoy music in the air while hanging out with friends from different countries around the world.
